To dare is to lose one’s footing momentarily.  Not to dare is to lose oneself.

Encouragement Always. 

You are not your circumstances.  You are not your waist size.  You are not your credit score.  You are not your address.   You are not your cholesterol level.  You are not your white blood cell count.  You are not your bank balance.  You are not your nationality.  You are not your marital status.  You are not your political affiliation.  You are not your social status.  You are not your stuff.

Only you can define you.  And when you begin defining who you are only in terms of what is positive and possible your life will never be the same.

If you can pick up after a crushing defeat, and go on to win again, you are going to be a champion someday.

Wilma Rudolph is a remarkable woman.   She was born with polio, spent the first five years of her life in bed.  The next six years she spent wearing leg braces.  However, despite these challenges she went on to become the fastest woman in the world.   She won three gold medals at the Rome Olympics.

Keep getting up after a fall and you too will be a champion someday.

Saturday I spent the afternoon doing something I did not want to do, I watched Hairspray with my three daughters.   I didn’t expect to enjoy the movie because I am not a fan of musicals.  But I loved it and I woke up this morning humming some of the tunes.  Perhaps doing what you don’t want to do is a good way to surprise yourself.

Rebellion against your handicaps gets you nowhere.  Self-pity gets you nowhere.  One must have the adventurous daring to accept oneself as a bundle of possibilities and undertake the most interesting game in the world — making the most of one’s best.

You can do what needs to be done.  You can change.  You can grow.  You can stop.  You can forgive.  You can forget.  You can ask.  You can begin.  You can lose.  You can win.  You can try.  You can survive.  You can overcome.  Your can persevere.  You can believe.  You can sow.   You can reap.   You can give.  You can get.  You can say yes.  You can say no.  You can do better today than you did yesterday.  You can make tomorrow better than today.

I am really grateful that my nineteen year old daughter is home for the holiday.  I am also grateful that the holiday ends tomorrow and she can be on her merry way back to college.
