5415 Notes Sent!

Less than 25,000 notes to go before I reach my goal of sending out 30,000 handwritten notes of encouragement.  I intend to hit the 10,000 note mark by the end of this year.  Wish me luck.

Take chances, make mistakes.  That’s how you grow.  Pain nourishes courage.  You have to fail in order to practice being brave.

A Tale of Two Wolves

Here is a great story of a Cherokee grandfather talking to his grandson. The Grandfather explains, “There are two wolves that live within each of us. One is filled with anger, hate, lust, envy, jealousy and outrage at the injustices done to him. The other is filled with compassion, kindness, humility and understanding.” The grandson asked him, “Grandfather which one is stronger?” and the Grandfather answered: “The one we feed.”

Great Quote by John Maxwell

Motivation is a trap.  Forget motivation.  Just do it.  And then guess what?  After you start doing this, that’s when the motivation comes and makes it easy for you to keep doing it.

A Tiny and Powerful Plan

If you find the tug toward New Year’s resolutions irresistible, here is a suggestion.

Think small.  No, think tiny.  Think of one tiny commitment you can make to yourself, something that is so manageable that it borders on silly…

– Sewing for two full minutes every day;

– Leaving the last sip of wine in your glass;

– Reading one paragraph of a novel each evening.

Robert Maurer describes this surprisingly effective approach to change in One Small Step Can Change Your Life: The Kaizen Way.

Why not try the idea?  Use a 3 x 5 card to record one step that you can take every day that would improve your life.  Let me know what comes of it.
