Encouragement Always.

Our nation has an almost obsessive fascination with celebrities, professional athletes and musicians.  I have a theory.  We worship celebrities because we aren’t starring in our own lives. 

A star is a mark of excellence.  You can be a star by leaving your mark of excellence on everything you do.

A star is a celestial body that appears as a fixed point light in the night sky.  You can be fixed point of light in the world.  You can be a place where people turn for direction and comfort in times of darkness.

Before you decide it is not possible to make the day at hand a positive thing because you are in the midst of extreme difficulty, read The Diary of Anne Frank.  It is a collection of diary entries she kept while she was hiding during Hitler’s horrific reign in Germany.  I have found that there is always some beauty left - in nature, sunshine, freedom, in yourself; these can all help you.  Look at these things, then you will find yourself again, and God, and then you regain your balance.  — Anne Frank

When you make a mistake, don’t look back at it long.  Take the reason of the thing into your mind and then look forward.  Mistakes are lessons of wisdom.  The past cannot be changed.  The future is yet in your power.

Helen Keller’s life is a testament to the power of hope.  When she was about two years old she contracted a disease that robbed her of both her sight and hearing.  When you consider that she could not see nor hear, it seems impossible to believe that she would grow up to be one of the most revered personalities of the 20th Century, working tirelessly on behalf of world peace, women’s suffrage and civil rights.

What makes Helen Keller’s story even more remarkable is the fact that she was born in 1880, which meant she lived during a time when being a woman was considered a disability and being physically disabled was perceived as being less than human.  So how was Keller able to accomplish so much with such formidable obstacles? 

She believed in the power of hope and confidence.

On my honor, I will try at every possible opportunity to encourage, give confidence to, inspirit, embolden, cheer, hearten, exhort, impel, reassure, and give hope to the discouraged, depressed, disheartened and dispirited.
