Now Is Better
Thinking about the past leads to regret and pain.
Think about the future leads to fear and anxiety.
That’s why I recommend focusing on the present moment and all the treasures that it holds.
Encouragement Always.

Loving the moment
Yesterday morning as I headed out the house I told myself that I would spend the day practicing staying focused on the present moment. No matter what happens, I said to myself, I will not dwell on the past or think about what might happen in the future.
No matter what I said, I will practice loving what is happening now.
You can guess what happens next. After leaving an appointment, I got in my car and it would not start.
Loving the moment when you are sitting in car with a dead battery is not easy. But, it is possible.
I was tempted to beat myself up for sitting in the car prior to the appointment and leaving the fan on while listening to the radio… I was tempted to fear the worse “what if something is seriously wrong with the car, something that is going to cost $1 billion to repair.”
But I didn’t give in to my temptation. I stayed focused on this question, “what can I do in this moment?”
I called for road side assistance… and within 40 minutes I was back on the road…

Forget You
This afternoon I will be serving as host of the Piedmont Triad Business Showcase Awards luncheon. Because I have never done anything like this before, this morning I felt a small pang of nervousness. Then, I said something to myself that instantly made me feel better. “Forget you” those are the two words that are a miracle cure for whatever ails me. The minute I stop thinking about myself, I feel better. Try it and see if it helps you.

Think Again
Yesterday morning as I was leaving the post office, I noticed that an elderly woman was trailing me by a few steps. So, I stopped and held the door open for her. She passed through the door without saying thank-you.
My first thoughts went something like this: ”Who does she think she is. How dare she not acknowledge my kind gesture. I should have closed the door in her face. I should have said something to her.”
After a few seconds of thinking this way, I began to feel annoyed and slightly agitated.
Then, because I didn’t want to feel annoyed or agitated, I said to myself, “Think again.”
My new thoughts went something like this: “It was my decision to hold the door open… And if holding the door open is the right thing to do, it doesn’t matter if the gesture is acknowledged or not… Get over your self, you held the door open, you didn’t give the lady a kidney. She doesn’t owe you anything.”
Thinking these thoughts made me smile and because I wanted to keep smiling I decided to keep thinking this way…
Encouragement Always.
