Great Read
A Girl Named Zippy: Growing Up Small in Mooreland Indiana by Haven Kimmel is a great read. Kimmel describes it as a memoir of a happy childhood.

A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini
This book is a powerful account of both Afghan history and a heart-warming testament to the power of friendship. Mariam and Laila, the two main characters, are two of the toughest women I have ever encountered in literature. They are potent reminders that there is always more in you than meets the eye.

The Power of Kindness by Piero Ferrucci
The blurb on the back of this book says it best: In eighteen interlocking chapters, each devoted to a single aspect of kindness, Ferrucci reveals that the kindest people are the most likely to thrive, to enable others to thrive, and to slowly but steadily turn our world away from violence, self-centeredness and narcissim — and toward love.

Read and Be Encouraged
Before you decide it is not possible to make the day at hand a positive thing because you are in the midst of extreme difficulty, read The Diary of Anne Frank. It is a collection of diary entries she kept while she was hiding during Hitler’s horrific reign in Germany. I have found that there is always some beauty left - in nature, sunshine, freedom, in yourself; these can all help you. Look at these things, then you will find yourself again, and God, and then you regain your balance. — Anne Frank
